'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the nail-biting final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative shot from distance, and Cameron Burgess immediately slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result sealed an unbelievable turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan shouting out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result earned a fourth-round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they always find their target and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without much intensity. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

His only game for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "This represented a long trip and it was freezing," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with a teammate, another squad member, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the guys but I'm hoping to be the following person to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on public transport after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
